Hey there,
This post will most likely infuriate the Admin as it involves the use of the dreaded "AUTO TUNE". Jk (sorta). Anyway, if you like the super robotic sound of AKON (thanks to Gary Miranda for his new nickname "Akorn") or T-PAIN read on for tips on achieving it.
-It is well known that the primary way that the "Robot sound" of T-PAIN, AKON, LIL WAYNE, etc is accomplished is through AUTO-TUNE. The long and short of achieving the Robot-sound is adding the Plug-In into your inserts, selecting the key of the song in the plug in, and setting the retune speed all the way to zero. The Re-Tune speed is basically a variable of the plug-in which determines how long it will take to tune the actual note sang to the the theororetically correct note for the scale. If the speed is zero then Auto-Tune takes the note sung and instantly makes it the retuned note. This is of course completely unnatural and more like how a keyboard works than a human voice, hence why we have a "Robotic-sounding voice" or as one fan described on a website (distastefully so if you ask me) "a sexy-robot voice".
-The extra "secret" for achieving the T-PAIN sound I cannot take credit for, I heard it from a friend who came in contact with T-PAINS engineer ( I will leave his name out of this for anonymities sake). My "source" told me that T-PAIN is actually recording singing his song a half step or full step higher than they will actually end up being. The engineer then tunes the vocal back to where it will finally rest on top of the auto-tune. (I'm not sure if he uses the pitch shift in Audio Suite, or the one built into Auto-Tune).
Anyway, I hope this post was informative for you, I can't really take credit for any of it, It's mostly just re-hashed information, but I felt the extra insight on the T-PAIN vocal was probably worth it.
RP OUT.
